ASTON MARTIN DB2/4, 1953

Having previously sold this car, I now have pleasure in again offering this exceptional Aston Martin to the market.

First registered on the 27th November 1953 to a Mr T Harper of Moretonhampstead, Devon, ‘LOU 222’ is the 39th DB2/4 built from a total of just 565 cars. Registered as LOU 222, the Aston was ordered with coachwork by Mulliner in Sea Green metallic with beige Connolly hide trim, a colour scheme the car still sports today.

In 1955, the car was sold to the Radio Rentals company, then later, in 1966, the Aston was acquired by a Mr. Robinson, remaining in his family for some 33 years. In 1999, the car changed hands, and has remained in this ownership to date. Between 1999 and 2002 the car was treated to a photographically documented body-off restoration to unashamed concours condition, a claim justified by twenty years of continuous concours success; with the restoration completed in early 2002, May of that year saw LOU 222 entered into the AMOC Spring Concours at Waddesdon Manor, where it was duly awarded 1st in the Feltham Class.

There are some four sides of A4 detailing every event attended over the last 22 years, containing far too much detail to go into here, however some highlights, among many, include five wins in the AMOC Feltham Class and four high placements in the AMOC Elite Class. The passage of time has not led to any drop-off in this motor car’s concours success, once again winning the Feltham Class at the 2016 AMOC Autumn Concours, with a further concours win in 2017.

In 2005, this 2/4 was selected by Aston Martin to be transported to Italy to partake in the launch of the then new V8 Vantage in order to demonstrate the design similarities of the two cars and the most recent event attended was the Bentley Driver’s Club Centenary at Blenheim Palace, in September 2019.

Today, LOU 222 remains in astonishing condition and ready once again to enter the concours fray, or indeed the Mille Miglia, for which it is of course eligible.

In addition to the huge cost of the restoration, the Aston has been serviced every spring by acknowledged marque specialists with no regard to expense.

*****

The only modifications from original Factory specification are the fitment of an electric cooling fan, discreetly fitted adjustable electric power steering and an aluminium fuel tank.
